Till Death Do Us Apart

The Last Few Minutes
http://english-blog.com
Wow, fifty years went by so quick! It seems like just yesterday I was slaying evil monsters to protect Herot and the kingdom's people. I wake up every morning to see Grendel's head in a top notch glass case for all to look upon after I brought it back to the King after our battle. Unfortunately, I discovered some stupid brigand decided to steal a dragon's jeweled cup. Personally, what's the big deal? He has a whole board full of gold. Someone sure is selfish! Anyways, now I have to go battle the furious dragon. Isn't that just the icing on top of my cake? However, I may be old, but I definitely still have the skill. I will do whatever it takes to bring peace to Herot once again. The thief led us, myself and eleven other warriors, to the dragon's lair. I screamed out a battle cry to catch the dragon's attention. He turns around, and I could tell that I was not the only one set out on slaughter. This dragon came running at me as if he was running towards the finish line in a marathon. Flames spewing from his mouth surrounded me. In my head, I was thinking, what in the world did I do to get myself in this mess? I lifted my shield in front of me to fortify my defense against his hot, smoky flames tearing away at my fate. The shield started to melt more and more, and I realized I couldn't use it any longer as I threw it to the side. I had nothing to protect me, but my bare hands. My sword and shield were ruined. (I definitely need to get a refund on whoever made these weapons.) My glory denied me for the first time. but I was not ready to leave this world, and I wasn't going to give up hope now. I looked back, and all my men had left me, with the exception of one. My dear friend, Wiglaf, had stayed by my side to assist me. When at last, we gave the dragon our final power-filled attempt to take him down. The dragon fell over the edge of the cliff and tumbled to his death. I was desperately tired. I lost my balance, and plumped down on the ground. My side was bleeding , and my words were short. Before I left this world, I told Wiglaf of my wishes for the tower and asked that the riches that belonged to the dragon be buried . I then finally closed my eyes for the last time with the rewards of bravery in my heart for the people of the kingdom to glorify.

Awwww, Grendel Got His Mommy to Help

My Battle with Grendel's Mother
http://ndhill.cghub.com
So, I had a fantastic week last week and I was filled with joy and pleasure. But noooo. Someone just had to wake me up from my beauty sleep to tell me the news.Apparently, Grendel's mother wasn't exactly thrilled with me chopping off her son's arm. I know thats her little boy and all, but really? He had to go tell his mom about it? So just like everyday, I walk into the main dining room, but today, I noticed something different. Grendel's arm I had earlier hung from the ceiling was no longer there.  I went to find one of the men I knew well that was staying in Herot as well, but instead found Hrothgar pacing back and forth with anxiety. I asked him what was troubling him, and he told me Grendel's mother had  an arrival last night at Herot, and had taken one of his, the King's,  most dearest friends. I couldn't believe this! I grabbed my sword, Hrunting, and headed to the swampy marsh at once. I dove down deep until I saw her before me, her face with wonderment, and then anger. I realized we were in the lair beneath the water. I took my sword and stabbed her. Guess what? Just my luck, my sword would not enter her flesh. It was completely useless. I fought with my hands, but it wasn't doing me much good. I looked up and noticed a giant carved sword hanging on the wall. Thank God, it was a miracle! I was so angry, steam was blowing from my head. I broke the chains holding it off and grabbed the beautiful sword. I turned around, sword in my hands, and sliced it across her neck. I heard the snaps and tears of the bones between her head and shoulders. She fell, and then was laying on the ground with a pond of blood surrounding the evil monster's mother. Grendel's mother's death was not enough to make me relax just yet. I was in search of another murderer to seek revenge. The runaway foe: Grendel. I ran through the halls and found Grendel laying in the corner. With the last bit of energy in my system, all the anger built inside of me traveled to my arms as the sword was lifted high above my head. My swift, powerful swing decapitated Grendel. Finally, no more death and destruction for this kingdom. My worries were alleviated by the picture that lay lifeless before me. What a day!

Looks Like Grendel Could Use a "Hand"

The Wrath of My Strength Against
Grendel

Tonight is showtime! Hrothgar has asked for my men and I to be prepared for Grendel late at night. My men laid down on the floors of Herot and I waited in a nearby room. I watched the doors to the hall steadily, as if at any time, Grendel would break the doors on a lunatic killing spree. My beady owl eyes were growing weary and as hour by hour passed, I was starting to feel a little drained out, but nothing could take my anxiousness away. To be honest, I was a little nervous; I mean how am I not to be? This crazy beast has ripped off men's heads and chewed on their limbs. Despite this, I was ready for my time to shine. The hour was late and I was laying on the floor. There was a noise in the distance that sounded like steady, low beats. Thump, Thump, Thump. I waited a few seconds to identify the sound- my heart barely beating and my breaths short. I tilted my head towards the entrance, and there was a loud, fierce blow to the door. The iron keeping the gates locked shattered into pieces; I knew at once it was Gendel's arrival and the battle may not be as simple as I thought. I watched him snatch up men and eat them one by one as if they were just popcorn at the movies. He faced my direction and our eyes met. He swept me up, and we immediately went at it.  There was no stopping us until our fate, chosen by God, would take one of us to death's cold grips. I put one specific punch to him, and Grendel looked as if he were shocked to see the power I contained within my body. I took my sword and severed his arm off. Blood gushed from the now missing limb. He shrieked and ran from my presence in Herot. I thanked God for sparing me in the gruesome battle with my qualified opponent as Grendel ran out the door in excruciating pain.  I still had tension and anger on my heart, so I swiftly picked up his arm and hung it from the rafters on the ceiling. My work was done. I could now finally breathe and rejoice in the victory before me.

Unferth vs. Me... No Competition There.

The Jealous Unferth

King Hrothgar greeted us well today. I told him of my courageous battles in the past, and how I was ready to face Grendel in battle to protect the men of the kingdom. We toasted and feasted to the thought of forever slaying Grendel. Unfortunately, Johnny Rain Cloud (a.k.a- Unferth) had to burst my bubble. It was difficult for me to hold back some of the things I wanted to say. However, I kept my thoughts to myself and listened eagerly to rectify, in a polite, mannerly way, his words against me. He told all my warriors, as well as King Hrothgar, of my swimming match with Brecca.Yeah, sure, I may have almost lost my life to my inability to keep up with Brecca, but the powerful waves and the strong current pulled me down quite a few times. I was young then, and not very wise, but I'm smarter now and I have proliferated a strength that no man, or mighty beast, can defeat against. For my comeback, I told him of my recent triumphs, and it seemed to intimidate him. I don't know, but King Hrothgar sure thought it was impressive. I'm not sure why Unferth is so jealous. Obviously, if he was great enough to slaughter Grendel himself, the monster wouldn't even be a dilemma, now would it?That's what I thought too. It just saddens me for Unferth to compare himself to me since it is really no match. It will just hurt him in the long run. What did I ever do to him?

Voyage to the New Land

Today, I set out to a land I have never been before filled with troubles and tribulations. My companion told me this morning of a powerful monster who lived deep within the swampy marshes. Disgusting! He told me the people call him Grendel. A while ago, Grendel invaded Herot, a fabulous mead-hall that is ruled by a wise, old man named Hrothgar. Hrothgar is King of the Danes, and he is quite some carpenter. King Hrothgar built Herot, nail by nail, board by board, just for the people of his kingdom. Anyways, where was I? Oh yes, Grendel entered Herot. This mysterious, strong, psychotic monster snatched up thirty men late at night in the pure darkness and slaughtered them limb by limb. This beast was so greedy, he just couldn't ever quench his lust. He slipped through the door at Herot and smashed them, right then and there, as they were laying in beds sleeping their minds away. He even took his precious little souvenirs and ran back to his lair as if he were some evil scientist. The men's blood fell down like Hansel and Gretel  when they dropped bread crumbs behind them on their walk. The bodies he killed satisfied him at the time, but I believe that he will keep coming for more. The whole story made me absolutely sick! The news angered me, and I knew I couldn't just sit back and let this continue. How would I feel if more people were killed because of my own personal unwillingness to help when it was needed most. This is why I'm packing my bags and headed for the highway. Actually, I'm just sailing across the sea to this troubled land in which Grendel resides.I have decided to bring along fourteen others to act as Robin to my Batman-ness. These men are the bravest and the strongest of all warriors I know of. I'm anxious and prepared for the adventure that awaits me. He won't stand a chance!
